Samsung's 8MP Pixon gets real, more mysterious

Etichete:

Right, so we were already pretty sure that Pixon we were eying earlier wasn't a KIRF of some sort, but just in case you still had your doubts, Samsung has stepped in to wash them away. The 8-megapixel Pixon is for real, as evidenced by a teaser site with an absurdly long URL name. As for confirmed specs, we're looking at a 3.2-inch touch panel, 13.8-millimeter thin enclosure, 8MP camera (with Auto Focus, twin LED flash, face detection, and shake reduction), a built-in accelerometer and 7.2Mbps HSDPA. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the linked site is going to spill any other details until October 2nd, but you can still kill some serious time there just rolling your cursor on and off the lens.

Samsung's i900 Omnia with white battery cover

Etichete:

We can't really vituperate the i900 Omnia's standard looks, but we must say, this thing looks striking in white. Yeah, it's only the back panel (read: battery cover) getting the makeover, but word on the street has it that this thing will actually be offered in white (with the obligatory wavy pattern) in at least some regions of the world. So, what say you? Is this the model that now has your eye? Or does the original still do it for you?

Linux-based Samsung i800 gets canned

Etichete:

Back in February, we all had high hopes that the Linux-based Samsung i800 would be a real winner when it launched on Orange this fall. Unfortunately, the i900 is apt to be out and about before the i800 can even have a proper funeral. According to Edelman, Orange's PR firm, the "i800 has been withdrawn in order to... prepare a more competitive Linux mobile." In all honesty, we don't suspect that many folks will miss it, but those holding out on picking up a new cellie can safely move on to courting other handsets.

Hands-On Video, Samsung Innov8

Here is a video of Samsung I8510 Innov8, Enjoy!

Samsung Omnia final form preview

Etichete:

Arne over at the unwired has his hands all up on the production version of Samsung's touchtastic Omnia i900, and yeah, it's pretty much official: the Touch Diamond has a solid competitor on its hands. The skinning Sammy's managed to perform here atop Windows Mobile's ancient UI might not be quite on part with the magic that is TouchFLO 3D, but it looks pretty close -- it's still better by leaps and bounds by the default, the transitions are kinda cool, and you're certainly going to want to use it if you're using this phone. Like the GSM version of the Touch Diamond, the Omnia sadly lacks any whiff of North American 3G (for the moment, anyhow), so this video is the closest many otherwise-interested yanks and canucks are going to get.

Samsung's i8510 INNOV8 gets official in Europe

Etichete:

We've already gotten word of most of the details of Samsung's i8510 INNOV8 (get it?) smartphone, but things just got a whole lot more official for the device in Europe and, coincidentally, a number of sites recently got to spend some time with the phone in NYC (despite the lack of an official US release). Of course, there's not a whole lot of surprises to be found, but it certainly seems like the phone will get the job done and then some, with its built in camera not only boasting an impressive 8 megapixels, but auto-focus, image stabilization, and a flash as well. The rest of the specs aren't too shabby either. Head on past the break to check out one video of the device courtesy of MobileBurn, and be sure to hit up the Laptop Mag link below for a second, higher-quality look at it.

Samsung launch I900 Omnia in Italy next week

Etichete:

If you've had your eye on Samsung's forthcoming Omnia, you've known good and well it was coming to Europe sometime this month. Thankfully, Sammy has removed the mystery by announcing that Italy will get first dibs when it launches in said country on July 22nd. We aren't told who will be second, third or last, but most major European locales should have it before September dawns. Obviously, prices will vary depending on operator and contract terms, but the 8GB edition (along with an Xbox 360 Arcade, as part of some random promotion) will reportedly be €499 ($789) without subsidy. Glean from that what you will.

Samsung SGH-i740 Windows Mobile Smartphone

Etichete:

According to idnes.cz, Samsung is planning to launch yet another full touch screen smartphone, the Samsung SGH-i740. The i740 the sucessor of Samsung i710, it has a 2.8-inch QVGA touch screen, 3 megapixel camera, built in GPS and FM radio receiver. The smartphone will be running with the new Windows Mobile 6.1 with a 624 MHz cpu.

The Samsung i740 is not going to be an expensive smartphone though, according to the source it will lack of 3G support and also without the WiFi capability. If I didn’t read wrongly, it won’t even support EDGE network and what it left for you could be just the GPRS. It does have a GSM Quadband radio though.

Other features include the bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, 107 x 59 x 13.8 mm body and a special designed dial-pad navigation button at the middle.

Samsung Omnia i900 Video

Etichete:

Samsung has launched a new touchscreen device that promises to be "everything to everyone" on the same day Apple are rumoured to be launching a 3G iPhone and we've managed to get a quick video review of it.

The new handset called the i900 or Omnia to give it its "funky" name promises to offer business users full touchscreen functionality with a business rather than consumer focus.

In the rumour mill pipeline for some time, Samsung has finally made it official, giving the i900 a proper UK launch on Monday.

The new handset will sport a 3.2-inch screen, come with HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, a 5-megapixel camera, accelerometer and come with two memory options 8 or 16GB. It will also feature the usual array of extras including radio and Bluetooth, and as standard with Samsung touchscreen devices offer Haptic support when you touch the screen.

Samsung announced the OMNIA smartphone

Etichete:

Today, Samsung announced the OMNIA, touted as a multimedia-friendly smartphone and an all-in-one device. Until now, it was known by its internal model number (SGH-i900) since information about it has leaked from a few sources. As it is official, its full real specifications are now revealed.

It is based on Windows Mobile Professional 6.1, personalized with the TouchWiz interface we have seen in the F480 back in February. It will add widgets to the homescreen, but we are not sure if there will be changes in the rest of the WM interface. The OMNIA specifications are of a high-class model and Samsung will try to position it both, as high-end all-in-one smartphone and a multimedia-friendly phone with user-friendly interface, rival of the iPhone (3G) and HTC Touch Diamond.

It comes with a 3.2” WQVGA touch display, 8 or 16GB of memory (two versions will be available), plus a slot for microSD cards, and support for both DivX and XviD straight out-of-the-box, in order to play high-quality video clips without the need to encode them especially for the phone. Additionally, it has a 5-megapixel camera with a nice set of software features (including face and smile detection) and an option for geo-tagging, as an integrated GPS is also present.

Samsung OMNIA i900 is a quad-band GSM with support for HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and WiFi, for usage when out of European 3G network coverage. Similar to other new offerings, it has brushed metal look and slim profile (0.5” / 12.5mm). Other features include accelerometer for auto-rotation of the display orientation and “optical mouse” (as in the i780), which is similar to a laptop’s touchpad.

OMNIA will be first available in the Southeast Asian market before June 20th, and in Europe from July. Pricing information is not announced, but you should expect it to be similar to the Touch Diamond.

Samsung L870 unveiled - Symbian smartphone in metal

Etichete:

Yet another Symbian S60 joins the ranks of Samsung high-class sliders. Reminding strongly of the Samsung G810, the Samsung L870 has a great-looking brushed stainless steel body and some capable hardware.

The Samsung L870 is powered by the same Symbian OS and user interface as all Nokia N-series smartphones. This new pup is only 13.5mm in thickness and has a 3 megapixel camera and a 2.4-inch 16M color TFT display with QVGA resolution. Unfortunately we still don't know whether the camera has an auto focus system or not.

The Samsung L870 will have tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support plus HSDPA 3.6Mbps for fast wireless data transfers. Speaking of wireless, the only thing that let us down in the L870 specs sheet is that it lacks Wi-Fi functionality. We should point out that the excellent Symbian S60 3rd edition mobile web browser shares one and the same platform with the iPhone's Safari mobile browser.

The Samsung L870 will also host FM radio and Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The internal memory is 100MB and the memory card slot can take a microSD card with a capacity of up to 4GB.
