An iPhone enthusiast discovered a kill switch that enables Apple to wipe a malicious or unauthorized iPhone application even after it has been paid for and installed on a user's iPhone. It did not take long for the information to spread and questions over the secrecy and purpose of the feature are being asked. While some argue that the blacklisting feature isn't in best interest of iPhone users, others believe it is effective weapon that can quickly kill potential malware and viruses hidden in legitimate applications. And yes, you guessed it right, Apple has not said anything yet.

The Olympic iPhone 3G by London jeweller De Vere is set to dazzle the event’s opening day on 08-08-08, turning the ordinary iPhone into a glitzy-blitzy status symbol.

Price of bejewelling your iPhone (yes you have to provide your own iPhone) goes for US$8,224 for the 88-diamond ‘prosperity’ version while the 168-diamond ‘Path-to-Riches’ get-up will set you back by US$15,493.

2.0 How to:

- 1) First create a custom IPSW using the IPSW Builder.
- 2) Click "Ipwner" and browse for the custom IPSW that you just created.
This will pwn itunes and allow you to flash Custom IPSW
files via DFU mode
- 3) Once you have pwned Itunes, put your phone into DFU mode.
If you don’t know how to do this click Here.
- 4) Once you are in DFU mode Itunes will pop up and then you can hold
shift and click restore and browse to your custom IPSW file.

Done!

Important Notes

Remove Winpwn 1.0 completely if you have it installed. Installing over the top of WinPwn 1.0 will cause problems.

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes ( Currently 7.7)

Top 10 iPhone battery life tips

1. Store and use the iPhone at room temperature

Direct sunshine or putting the iPhone in the glove compartment of a warm car will cause your iPhone's battery life to drop sharply. The iPhone functions well between 0 degrees centigrade and 35 degrees centigrade (32-95° F).

You should store your iPhone in conditions between -20° C and 45° C (-4° F to 113° F).

The ideal battery life environment for both usage and storage is room temperature: 22° C (72° F).

2. Change Mail autochecking from every 15 minutes to every hour

• Go to Settings
• Click on Mail
• Click on Auto-check and increase the interval or turn it off altogether

3. Turn off Wi-fi

If you don't need to use Wi-Fi constantly then you will get better battery life by turning it off and then enabling it when you want to browse via a hot spot.

• Go to Settings
• Click on Wi-Fi

4. Turn off Bluetooth

• Go to Settings
• Click on General
• Click on Bluetooth

5. Reduce the display's brightness

• Go to Settings
• Click on Brightness
• Drag the slider to the left to dim the display's brightness

6. Enable the display's Auto-Brightness

Alternatively you could enable Auto-Brightness so the iPhone's display is automatically adjusted to match the current lighting conditions:

• Go to Settings
• Click on Brightness
• Set Auto-Brightness to On

7. Lock the iPhone

It may sound obvious but locking the iPhone as soon as you've finished using it will turn off the display immediately and ensure that it won't be making persistent calls while it's in your pocket. Simply click on the Sleep/Wake button on the upper right hand of the iPhone.

8. Enable Auto-Lock

Better still, if you can get into the habit of locking your iPhone yourself simply turn on the Auto-Lock feature:

• Go to Settings
• Click on General
• Click on Auto-Lock
• Select a duration before the Auto-Lock kicks in, eg 1 minute or less

9. Turn off keyboard clicks

If you regularly use the iPhone's touch keyboard then the constant need to generate audio keyboard clicks can add to the iPhone's power consumption. To turn off keyboard clicks:

• Go to Settings
• Click on Sounds

10. Turn off the music equalizer (EQ)

The iPhone's audio equalizer may add some oomph to the songs but it also delivers a powerful blow to the handset's battery life because of the constant processing it requires. To turn off the EQ:

• Click on iPod

When available, the PwnageTool 2.0 will be able to activate, unlock & jailbreak the first generation of iPhone. As for the iPhone 3G, the team are still working on the unlock solution for it. iPhone 3G users will be able to activate & jailbreak their iPhone 3G for this release

The Wall Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg has been testing the iPhone 3G for a couple of weeks and today posted his review. As you’d expect, he loves the “between three and five times as fast” 3G networking, “wireless synchronization with corporate email” and the App Store which gives iPhone 3G “a chance to become a true computing platform with wide versatility.”

Duncan Riley at The Inquisitr decided to share his iPhone unboxing with the world, but unlike the boring traditionalists who've done the same before, Duncan has a white one. There's not much new here, but it nice to get a good clear view of the look and finish on the paler model.

Walt Mossberg had posted a review video of his impressions of the iPhone 3G. On the whole, mostly positive about the device; he likes the form factor (which he wants to stress really hasn’t changed much), says the 3G speeds are a big improvement over EDGE, and informs us that the audio quality and phone reception are a big improvement.

Google's released a new version of its Google Talk web app that's optimized for the iPhone and iPod touch -- that's right, web app, meaning that they've stayed true to Stevie's original vision of keeping everything within the Safari sandbox. No firmware 2.0, no App Store, and certainly no iPhone 3G needed to take advantage of this one, just a plain ol' iPhone Classique and a willingness to keep Safari open for however long you wish to be available to your Google Talkin' comrades.

Occasionally your Apple iPhone may hang or 'freeze' during an operation. We show you how to unfreeze an unresponsive iPhone without doing a full Restore in iTunes

Occasionally your iPhone may freeze or hang during an operation - old timers would call it a crash - and won't respond to the home buttons, sleep button or the touchscreen.

If this happens there are two solutions you should try first:

• Option 1: press and hold down the Home button on the front of the iPhone for at least 6 seconds. In most cases this should shut down the unresponsive application and return you to the main menu
• Option 2: if option 1 didn't work then you will need to reset the iPhone. You can do this by pressing the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button on the top the iPhone's case and holding them down together for 10 seconds. The iPhone should then reset itself and return to the locked state

If neither of these two options fixes your unresponsive iPhone then you should connect it to your Mac or PC and launch iTunes. Click on the Summary tab and then click on the Restore button.

This will restore your iPhone to its factory settings and install the latest version of the iPhone operating software. It will also erase all the songs, videos, calendar and contact information on the iPhone. (Though it is easy enough to reinstall that info by syncing with iTunes when the iPhone is fixed).

If none of the above methods fixes your iPhone you will need to call the retailer who supplied it to you.

As anyone with an iPhone and some unshielded speakers is likely well aware, the two don't exactly get along all that well together when they're in close proximity, with the fight for your desk's air space often resulting in an annoying buzzing sound. Now, one enterprising individual has thankfully come up with a solution in the form of the iPhone anti-interference shield, which consists of nothing more than a carefully cut Red Bull can and some always-handy double stick tape. The shield's creator does warn that there could possibly be some hindrance to your reception, however, although that apparently hasn't been noticeable so far. Of course, then shield would no doubt be just as effective with another 2G GSM phone, and you can probably find a suitable substitute for the Red Bull can if its not to your taste either.

That sound you hear is the not-yet-released nüvifone trembling in fear, as TomTom has just announced that an iPhone-ready version of its famed navigation software is practically ready to rock 'n roll. More specifically, a TomTom spokesman was quoted as saying that its "navigation system runs on the iPhone already," and he made the statement hot on the heels of the iPhone 3G announcement. Sadly, he wouldn't disclose an estimated release date for the software, but it's safe to say that the TomTom touch could make Apple's darling a formidable nüvifone opponent.

It's been a long, leak-filled wait, but Apple finally took the wraps off its 3G iPhone. Thinner edges, full plastic back, flush headphone jack, and the iPhone 2.0 firmware -- Apple's taking a lot of the criticisms to heart from the first time around. Obviously 3G is at the forefront, but they're also making sure it's available all over internationally, works with enterprises, runs 3rd party apps... and does it all for cheaper. Apple claims its 3G speeds trounce the competition, with pageloads 36% faster than the N95 and Treo 750 -- and of course it completely trounces the old EDGE data. Battery life isn't getting put out to pasture though, with 300 hours of standby, 8-10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 7 hours of video and 24 hours of audio. GPS is also a go. Apple is using A-GPS, which supplements regular satellite GPS data with info from cellular towers. WiFi data is also worked into the mix, which should give users a pretty solid lock on where the heck they are on this planet. Unfortunately, there's no front-facing cam, which syncs with what we were hearing, but is still a little disappointing. Apple hopes to launch in 70 countries this year. 8GB is available for $199, 16GB for $299 -- and the 16GB comes in white. Both pricepoints require a contract. Apple will be hitting the 22 biggest markets, including the US, on July 11th.

Hey, did you hear that there might be a new iPhone being announced (and possibly released) next week? Yeah, us too, and we've been slid some details on what exactly the gold master firmware for the new 3G-laden model contains. Hardware-wise, we've been able to confirm the presence of a whole lot of HSDPA along with the oft-rumored GPS receiver, which is going to help us get a couple good nights' rests ahead of Steve's WWDC keynote on Monday.

VoIP has been ushered onto the iPhone in quite a few incarnations, but we'd wager than none of 'em are as useful as iCall. Said application is currently in beta form, though a release isn't quite ready for the public at large. Put simply, it enables iPhones to switch from GSM to WiFi (when WiFi is nearby, of course) on-the-fly in order to save cell minutes and bypass the hassle of manually changing over. Interested?
